No More ROOM for the Homeless?

Updated: Mar 18, 2020

BE PREPARED ...

“350 Homeless Folk in DFW Can have Shelter Tonight ... if ... we are Prepared.”

But if you are like me ... if a disaster or pandemic strikes our community ... this anxiety grips at our gut ...

  • “Am I prepared?” ...

  • “Are WE prepared?” ....

  • “How can we be BETTER prepared?”

I mean, if one knows the COVID-19 virus is a threat to our most vulnerable populations ... and the Homeless in Dallas are among the most vulnerable ... one might ask ...

“How can WE be BETTER prepared?”

Answer: Hang out with more CERT Volunteers!! Community Emergency Response Team.

CERT. Today five volunteers connected with HPUMC Outreach, Highland Park United Methodist Church and Mount Olive Lutheran Church - Dallas learned about CERT as we prepared emergency housing for 350 people who might not otherwise have a bed tonight.

As a health precaution, sleeping arrangements in our 6 local shelters have to change. Beds need to be 6 feet apart.

And shelters, already filled to overflowing, need more accommodations. Immediately.

That’s where CERT steps in. In the face of disaster, Americans, in Dallas and across the country, come together with courage, compassion and unity to ask, "How can I help?"

CERT volunteers provide the greatest benefit to the community. They are trained (a 20 hour course), prepared (ongoing training), and certified to step in where professional first responders cannot. Thank God for their service and example!!

If you hear God calling you to be more PREPARED.

If you hear God inviting you to be more connected to our community in a meaningful way.

Maybe CERT training is in your future.

I am certainly considering it. Seriously.

And if you want to get started in the community now, helping those most affected by COVID-19 ... or anyone ... check out:
