Can We Find God's Provision on Jehovah Jireh SUNDAY?

10:45 - Leader's Meeting

11:00 - Coffee Hour in 11 Minutes

  • Revelations 22:1-2 - Then the angel showed me the RIVER of the WATER of LIFE, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the RIVER stood the TREE of LIFE, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

11:11 - WORSHIP BEGINS

217 Years Ago Today

On July 11, 1804:

Aaron Burr slays Alexander Hamilton in duel.

  • In the 1800 election, Jefferson and Burr were running mates and each received 73 electoral votes. The vote then went to the House of Representatives. What at first seemed but an electoral technicality—handing Jefferson victory over his running mate—developed into a major constitutional crisis when Federalists in the lame-duck Congress threw their support behind Burr. After a remarkable 35 tie votes, a small group of Federalists changed sides and voted in Jefferson’s favor. Alexander Hamilton, who had supported Jefferson as the lesser of two evils, was instrumental in breaking the deadlock.

  • in an 1804 Burr ran for the Governor of New York. Hamilton campaigned against Burr with great fervor, and Burr lost the Federalist nomination and then, running as an independent for governor, the election. In the campaign, Burr’s character was savagely attacked by Hamilton and others, and after the election he resolved to restore his reputation by challenging Hamilton to a duel, or an “affair of honor,” as they were known.

  • Affairs of honor were commonplace in America at the time, and the complex rules governing them usually led to an honorable resolution before any actual firing of weapons. In fact, the outspoken Hamilton had been involved in several affairs of honor in his life, and he had resolved most of them peaceably. No such recourse was found with Burr, however, and on July 11, 1804, the enemies met at 7 a.m. at the dueling grounds near Weehawken, New Jersey. It was the same spot where Hamilton’s son had died defending his father’s honor in 1801.

A) PRELUDE: Hymn #108 in the Red Book: Beautiful Savior
B) Gospel Lesson: Matthew 11 read by #1
  • 1) After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him,

“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”

Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:

  • The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 1 This is the one about whom it is written:

“‘I will send my messenger ahead of you,

who will prepare your way before you.’

  • Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. Whoever has ears, let them hear.

C) First Hymn: Go and Tell John, by Lasting Impressions on the album "Free Indeed"

Please MUTE and SING (lyrics are below:)

  • Verse 1: As he sat there in that prison cell, he knew just how it came about, And he knew his life was over and he was never comin' out, But there was just one thing he had to know, he had to make a final plea, So he sent his friends to ask the Lord if he was who He claimed to be

  • CHORUS: "Go tell John -- That the lame have learned to walk, That the poor can hear the word of God and the deaf can hear me talk, Go tell John, That the blind can finally see, oh and, Blessed is the man who doesn't fall away because of me"

  • He was born so he could tell the world that the Kingdom was at hand, And that the Christ would soon come after Him to complete the Father's plan, And there was nothing else he wanted more than to see this Kingdom grow, It was the only thing that mattered, it was all he had to know

  • Well he gave his life to testify that Jesus was the Son (Jesus was the Son), He only wanted now to know that it was a good thing he had done (good thing he had done), Soon he would be murdered by a wicked, evil man, And I'm sure the words of Jesus helped him understand

  • BRIDGE: Go tell John (go tell John), That the dead are raised again (dead are raised again), Go tell John, tell John (go tell John), That the lepers now are cleansed (the lepers now are cleansed), Go tell John (go tell John), That the path he chose was right (path he chose was right), Go tell John (go tell John)

  • Go and tell him that I truly am the light"

C) SECOND LESSON: GENESIS 22:21-34, led by #2
  • 2) Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

  • 3) “Here I am,” he replied.

  • 2) Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

  • 3) Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

  • 2) He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,

  • 3) Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

  • 2) “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

  • 3) “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

  • 2) Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

  • 3) When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

  • 2) But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

  • 3) “Here I am,” he replied.

  • 2) “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

  • 3) Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

  • 2) So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks Be to God!!

D) I've Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy down in My Heart, heading into our MESSAGE for the YOUNG at HEART, a special edition for the EASTER Season.
E) KYRIE, led by Carlos Leggett
  • In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.

Amen.

E) LITURGY & PRAYER led by #4 & #5
  • 5) The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

AND ALSO WITH YOU

  • 4) We gather together and share a CREED to remember that in God, we have a Companion who will never fail us and will be with us always. It is a CREED that reminds us that death is never the final answer, and the hope springs eternal for those who follow the God of Resurrection and Life.

I BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY

Creator of heaven and earth.

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST,

God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • 5) We take this moment to confess our sins: Do you confess that you are captive to sin and cannot free yourself from this trap of sin and death, at least not in this life? Do you confess that you have sinned against God in anger, rebellion, frustration, doubt and fear.

WE DO.

  • 4) Do you confess that, because your neighbor fails to love in the way that God commands, that you also have not loved your neighbor as yourself? Do you confess that you struggle to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength?

WE DO.

  • 5) Do you ask, with the help of Jesus Christ, Forgive us, Lord, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

WE DO. AMEN.

  • 4) Brothers and sisters hear this grace: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you and for His sake, God forgives you all of your sins. As a called disciple of Christ I declare the entire forgiveness of all of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

AMEN.

  • 5) The peace of Christ be with you always.

AND ALSO WITH YOU.

  • 4) We will now switch to Gallery View. As forgiven sinners, please share the peace with somebody on this call, using their name.

PEACE BE WITH YOU.

F) Gospel Lesson: PSALM 24, led by #6

Halle, Halle, Halle-lujah, led by Tanya Browne & Dolphene Davis

Our Preaching Lesson comes from Psalm 24.

GLORY TO YOU, O LORD!

  • 6) The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

  • 6) The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.

  • They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

  • Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty — he is the King of glory.

This is a Psalm to the Lord.

GREAT THANKSGIVING & Preface by #8

Please UNmute & RESPOND

The Lord be with you,

AND ALSO WITH YOU

Lift up your hearts

WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD!

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.

IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE.

It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, Holy Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so with the Church on Earth and all the hosts of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, led by Pastor Todd

Please MUTE & SING:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, in the highest.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION & Lord's Prayer, led by #8

The Words of Institution are recorded for us in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well as by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:

  • “Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night in which He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: ‘Take and eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.’

  • “In the same way also He took the cup after supper, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying: ‘Drink of it all of you; this cup is the New Covenant in My blood, which is shed for you and for all people, for the remission of sins. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'”

When the disciples didn't know how to PRAY in the face of the challenges ahead of them, they asked Jesus for help. He said, "Pray this way!" Will you share with me the Lord's Prayer?

Please UNMute & RESPOND

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

  • Come to the Resurrection Banquet, for all is ready. We have journeyed for 40 days from Ashes and Dust to Resurrection and an Empty Tomb during Lent, and for 50 days from Easter to Pentecost. This is a much longer season, from Pentecost to Advent. And still:

We remember that we are Dust and to Dust we shall Return. But, Alleluia!!

The Body of Christ is Broken for Me. Alleluia!! The Blood of Christ is Shed for Me. And our God of Resurrection brings to life even that which once was dead. Alleluia!! May the Spirit of God bring the gift of Resurrection into our lives, into our families, into our church, into our community, and into our country. Amen.

1) Lamb, Of God, led by Dolphene Davis
2) Deep River, led by the Century Singers of Texas A&M (Pastor Todd's college choir)

Please MUTE & SING:

1) Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us (repeat) ... Lamb of God, you take away, the sins of the world, grant us peace ... grant us peace.

M) Post Communion Blessing & Prayer led by #8

ALL: May the body and blood of our Risen Lord, Jesus the Christ, strengthen you and keep you in His grace, now and always. Amen.

  • Let us pray. Life-giving God, in the mystery of Christ’s resurrection you send light to conquer darkness, water to give new life, and the bread of life to nourish your people. Help us to stand with Jesus as witnesses to your Son’s resurrection, that we may show your glory to all the world, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. AMEN.
