PSALM 121:10-19 read by #1

I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep. God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you — Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke. God guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always.

I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD,

the Maker of heaven and earth.

B) FIRST LESSON: MATTHEW 18:1-6, 10-14, led by #2 & #3
  • 2) At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

3) He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.

  • 2) And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

  • 3) “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.  “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?  And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

This is the Word of the Lord.

THANKS BE TO GOD.

D) MESSAGE for the YOUNG at HEART, led by Yarlette Bryant, Sydney Brown and the gifted Goffney Girls
E) LITURGY & PRAYER led by #4 & #5
  • 5) The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

AND ALSO WITH YOU

  • 4) We gather together and share a CREED to remember that in God, we have a Companion who will never fail us and will be with us always. It is a CREED that reminds us that death is never the final answer, and the hope springs eternal for those who follow the God of Resurrection and Life.

I BELIEVE IN GOD,

the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST,

God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • 5) We take this moment to confess our sins: Do you confess that you are captive to sin and cannot free yourself from this trap of sin and death, at least not in this life? Do you confess that you have sinned against God in anger, rebellion, frustration, doubt and fear.

WE DO.

  • 4) Do you confess that, because your neighbor fails to love in the way that God commands, that you also have not loved your neighbor as yourself? Do you confess that you struggle to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength?

WE DO.

  • 5) Do you ask, with the help of Jesus Christ, Forgive us, Lord, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

WE DO. AMEN.

  • 4) Brothers and sisters hear this grace: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you and for His sake, God forgives you all of your sins. As a called disciple of Christ I declare the entire forgiveness of all of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

AMEN.

F) GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 15:21-28 read by #6

Halle, Halle, Halle-lujah, led by Tanya Browne & Dolphene Davis

Hallelujah, Salvation & Glory, (Revelation 19:1) led by Pastor Todd *

(*ready to add in voices by Choir Members)

Our Gospel Lesson comes from the Matthew in the 15th Chapter.

GLORY TO YOU, O LORD!

  • 6) Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon." But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed instantly.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

PRAISE TO YOU, O CHRIST.

G) SECOND SONG: Here I Am, Lord, written by Daniel Schuette, led by GYC 2015 Choir (Seventh Day Adventist Generation:Youth:Christ Conference) ... or Here I Am, Lord, led by Virtual Choir Scuola Primaria - Istituto del Sacro Cuore
  • [Chorus]: Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?, I have heard you calling in the night, I will go, Lord, if you lead me, I will hold your people in my heart

  1. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry, All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save, [Chorus]

  2. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright, Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? [Chorus]

  3. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain, I have wept for love of them, They turn away [Chorus]

  4. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone, I will speak my words to them, Whom shall I send? [Chorus]

  5. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame, I will set a feast for them, My hand will save [Chorus]

Please MUTE and SING along

H) SERMON: WOMAN, GREAT IS YOUR FAITH!!

I want to have her faith. The Canaanite woman. Who persisted even when Jesus, even when her savior seemed to be throwing up barriers in her face. Her faith was so strong she almost seemed to enjoy the banter with Jesus.

The Canaanite woman says: "Have mercy on me, Jesus. Help my daughter."

The Disciples of Jesus say: “Send her away, for she makes so much noise”

Jesus says: "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

The Canaanite woman says again: "Lord, help me."

Jesus says again: "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the non-sheep, the dogs."

The Canaanite woman replies: "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs, the non-sheep, eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

Jesus proclaims: "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done as you wish." And immediately her daughter is healed. And she goes home so they can celebrate. Together.

See the sin. Name the sin. Then. Tend to the sheep. Especially the lost sheep who want to be found. And bring healing where healing is possible.

J) THIRD SONG: Lead Me, Guide Me, written by Doris Akers, led by Pastor Todd

GREAT THANKSGIVING & Preface by #7

Please UNMute & RESPOND

The Lord be with you,

AND ALSO WITH YOU

Lift up your hearts

WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD!

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.

IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE.

It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, Holy Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so with the Church on Earth and all the hosts of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, or You Are Holy, led by Pastor Todd

Please MUTE & SING:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, in the highest.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION & Lord's Prayer, led by #7

The Words of Institution are recorded for us in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well as by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:

  • “Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night in which He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: ‘Take and eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.’

  • “In the same way also He took the cup after supper, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying: ‘Drink of it all of you; this cup is the New Covenant in My blood, which is shed for you and for all people, for the remission of sins. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'”

When the disciples didn't know how to PRAY in the face of the challenges ahead of them, they asked Jesus for help. He said, "Pray this way!" Will you share with me the Lord's Prayer?

Please UNMute & RESPOND

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

ALL: May the body and blood of our Risen Lord, Jesus the Christ, strengthen you and keep you in His grace, now and always. Amen.

  • Let us pray. Life-giving God, in the mystery of Christ’s resurrection you send light to conquer darkness, water to give new life, and the bread of life to nourish your people. Help us to stand with Jesus as witnesses to your Son’s resurrection, that we may show your glory to all the world, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. AMEN.
