I look to the mountains; where will my help come from?

My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

He will not let you fall; your protector is always awake.

The protector of Israel never dozes or sleeps.

The Lord will guard you; he is by your side to protect you. The sun will not hurt you during the day

Nor the moon during the night.

The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe.

He will protect us as we come and go, now and forever.

Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me. Do not banish me from your presence;

Do not take your holy spirit away from me.

Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your commands,

And we will turn back to you.

Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.

Help me to speak, Lord, and I will praise you.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

  • Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.

Amen.

E) LITURGY & PRAYER led by #3, #4, & #5
  • 3) The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

AND ALSO WITH YOU

  • Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most holy and merciful God, We confess to you and to one another, and before the whole company of heaven, that we have sinned by our fault, by our own fault, by our own most grievous fault, in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.

THIS WE CONFESS TOGETHER. AMEN.

  • 4) We have not loved you with our whole heart, and mind, and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not forgiven others, as we have been forgiven. We have shut our ears to your call to serve as Christ served us. We have not been true to the mind of Christ. We have grieved your Holy Spirit.

HAVE MERCY ON US, O GOD!

  • 5) Our past unfaithfulness, the pride, envy, hypocrisy, and apathy that have infected our lives, we confess to you. Our self-indulgent appetites and ways, and our exploitation of other people, we confess to you.

HAVE MERCY ON US, O GOD!

  • Our negligence in prayer and worship, and our failure to share the faith that is in us, we confess to you. Our neglect of human need and suffering, and our indifference to injustice and cruelty, we confess to you.

HAVE MERCY ON US, O GOD!

  • 3) Our false judgments, for uncharitable thoughts toward our neighbors, and our prejudice and contempt toward those who differ from us, we confess to you.

HAVE MERCY ON US, O GOD!

  • 4) Our waste and pollution of your creation, and our lack of concern for those who come after us, we confess to you.

HAVE MERCY ON US, O GOD!

  • 5) Restore us, O God, and let your anger depart from us.

HEAR US, O GOD, YOUR MERCY IS GREAT!!

  • Having confessed our sin, let us also confess our faith:

I BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY

Creator of heaven and earth.

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST,

God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • 3) The peace of Christ be with you always.

AND ALSO WITH YOU.

  • 4) We will now swithc to Gallery View. As forgiven sinners, please share the peace with somebody on this call, using their name.

PEACE BE WITH YOU.

F) GOSPEL LESSON: Mark 1:9-15, led by #6

Halle, Halle, Halle-lujah, led by Tanya Browne & Dolphene Davis

Our Gospel Lesson comes from Mark in the 1st Chapter.

GLORY TO YOU, O LORD!

  • 7) In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

PRAISE TO YOU, OH CHRIST

G) SECOND SONG "Here We Stand" led by Jesse Morgan
  • Please Mute and Sing Along (No Lyrics)

  • We hunger for your love, We hunger for your grace, We hunger for your mercy, Lord and compassion

  • Chorus: Here we stand, lifting up holy hands, Holy are you Lord, Take all our worship, All of our passion, We give you our whole heart Lord, And our devotion

  • We're thirsty for your spirit, Fresh from above, Windows of heaven, Pour us a blessing

  • Open the flood gates, And pour us a blessing, We need your rain Lord, Once again, Let this be your heart cry to the lord, Ask for the rain of His presence, To fall upon you right now

  • Father we need your rain, We need your rain we need it, We can do nothing without you

H) SERMON: "Here We STAND: In CONFESSION as much as in COMPASSION" shared by Pastor Todd

An OLD LUTHERAN Facebook Post on January 7, 2021 about White Supremacy and a HERE WE STAND Invitation to a Conversation on a December 14, 2020 Blog Post

(https://oldlutheran.com/blogs/love-is-greater/here-we-stand-for-justice):

"'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.' – Letter from a Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963

It is hard to imagine moving forward from where we are as a church and society without naming the events that brought us to this place as a series of unjust actions by leadership and powerful people. Jesus showed us in his actions how important it is to seek justice, speak truth to power, and defend those whose power or voice has been muted/stripped away."

Old Lutheran was poised to make HERE WE STAND their theme for 2021, even before the events of January 6, 2021. But this Facebook post stimulated a contentious conversation of over 1000 comments, mostly amongst fellow Lutherans.

On April 18, 1521 a reformation was spawned as Martin Luther declared at the Diet of Worms, Here I Stand.

On April 18, 2021 *Mt. Olive Lutheran Church* in Dallas, TX joins Old Lutheran in extending a HERE WE STAND Challenge to NT/NL Clergy and Congregations.

We contend that a 528 year history of White Supremacy was accelerated, but not perpetuated by a papal bull entitled the "Doctrine of Discovery" in 1493.

We further contend that the five centuries of policies and legal actions that have followed this declaration, which have almost universally been supported by mostly white churches, are quite similar in scope to the abuses that Martin Luther and other reformers outlined in the Augsburg Confession of June 25, 1530.

Thus, we invite our Lutheran clergy and congregational colleagues to join us in a Confessional Conversation that will likely require years of dedicated study, significant change and an active commitment to biblical justice in the DFW area.

Because ALL LUTHERANS HAVE BAGGAGE, we firmly believe such a conversation must be predicated upon a foundation of grace for all.

We also believe that a month in February called Black History Month is wholly insufficient for any of us to explore fully enough the contributions and tremendous challenges faced by the millions of African Americans who helped shape U.S. History. So we invite Lutheran clergy and congregations to join us in a YEAR long HERE WE STAND study of scripture, as well as a 400 year history of U.S. policies, court cases, and segregation practices that still shape our local churches as we know them today.

Because this is a conversation of ongoing rebirth and renewal, we suggest starting in April (or after Easter) and concluding in Lent of the following year. We would love for a handful of congregations to join us in 2021, but we will continue this effort until at least the 2030 Reformation Anniversary. So join us when the breath of the Holy Spirit blows strongest in your sanctuary.

In Romans 8, St. Paul instructs us that, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death." We believe that reformation is not about apportioning condemnation, but rather about understanding better God's grace. And we hope you are willing to engage and explore with us how the historic Black Church has been a vehicle through which the gospel is shared ... for the entire history of this great country.

Here We Stand. We can do no other. God help us. Amen

GREAT THANKSGIVING & Preface by #7

Please UNmute & RESPOND

The Lord be with you,

AND ALSO WITH YOU

Lift up your hearts

WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD!

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.

IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE.

It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, Holy Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so with the Church on Earth and all the hosts of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, led by Pastor Todd

Please MUTE & SING:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, in the highest.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION & Lord's Prayer, led by #7

The Words of Institution are recorded for us in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well as by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:

  • “Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night in which He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: ‘Take and eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.’

  • “In the same way also He took the cup after supper, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying: ‘Drink of it all of you; this cup is the New Covenant in My blood, which is shed for you and for all people, for the remission of sins. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'”

When the disciples didn't know how to PRAY in the face of the challenges ahead of them, they asked Jesus for help. He said, "Pray this way!" Will you share with me the Lord's Prayer?

Please UNMute & RESPOND

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

  • Come to the banquet, for all is now almost ready. But, friends, one more thing. With Christ, today, a few days later than many in the whole church, we enter together inot this time of remembering the Passover of Jesus, from death to life.

  • We begin this holy season by acknowledging our need for repentance and for God’s mercy. We take this time to contemplate how our forty day journey toward the cross might continue, with oil and, perhaps, even ashes.

  • Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth. May this oil and what we use for ashes be a sign of our mortality and penitence, reminding us that only by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ are we given eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

We remember that we are Dust and to Dust we shall Return. But.

The Body of Christ is Broken for Me. The Blood of Christ is Shed for Me. And God brings to life even that which once seemed dead. Amen.

1) Lamb, Of God, led by Dolphene Davis

Please MUTE & SING:

We remember that we are Dust and to Dust we shall Return.

  • 2) Refrain: Near the cross, near the cross, Be my glory ever; Till my raptured soul shall find, Rest beyond the river.

  1. Jesus, keep me near the cross, There a precious fountain — Free to all, a healing stream — Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.

  2. Near the cross, a trembling soul, Love and Mercy found me; There the bright and morning star Sheds its beams around me.

  3. Near the cross! O Lamb of God, Bring its scenes before me; Help me walk from day to day, With its shadows o’er me.

  4. Near the cross I’ll watch and wait Hoping, trusting ever, Till I reach the golden strand, Just beyond the river.

L) Post Communion Blessing & Prayer led by #7

ALL: May the body and blood of our Risen Lord, Jesus the Christ, strengthen you and keep you in His grace, now and always. Amen.

  • Let us pray. Life-giving God, in the mystery of Christ’s resurrection you send light to conquer darkness, water to give new life, and the bread of life to nourish your people. Help us to stand with Jesus as witnesses to your Son’s resurrection, that we may show your glory to all the world, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. AMEN.

Please MUTE and SING along (lyrics in Video and below)

  • Well, you just stand when there's nothing left to do You just stand, watch the lord see you through Yes, after you've done all you can You just stand

  1. What do you do when you've done all you can, And it seems like it's never enough? And what do you say, When your friends turn away, And you're all alone, alone? Tell me, what do you give when you've given your all And it seems like you can't make it through?

  2. Tell me, how do you handle the guilt of your past? Tell me, how do you deal with the shame? And how can you smile while your heart has been broken, And filled with pain, filled with pain? Tell me what do you give when you've given your all Seems like you can't make it through

  3. Stand and be sure, Be not entangled in that bondage again, You just stand and endure, God has a purpose, Yes, God has a plan

  4. Tell me what do you do when you've done all you can And it seems like you can't make it through? Child, you just stand, you just stand, stand, Don't you dare give up through the storm, Stand through the rain, Through the hurt, Yeah, through the pain, Don't you bow, and don't you bend, Don't give up, no, don't give in, Hold on Just be strong, God will step in, And it won't be long

  5. After you've done all you can, after you've done all you can, After you've gone through the hurt, After you've gone through the pain, After you've gone through the storm, After you've gone through the rain, Prayed and cried, oh my, After you've done all you can you just stand
