11:11 - WORSHIP BEGINS

Create in Me a Clean Heart, Oh God (* offered by Pastor Todd)

ISAIAH 55:8-11, JEREMIAH 29:11-14 read by #1

My plans aren’t your plans, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways,

and my plans than your plans. Just as the rain and the snow come down from the sky and don’t return there without watering the earth, making it conceive and yield plants and providing seed to the sower and food to the eater, so is my word that comes from my mouth; it does not return to me empty. Instead, it does what I want, and accomplishes what I intend.

I know the PLANS I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are PLANS for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope.

When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you.  When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me.  I will be present for you, declares the Lord, and I will end your captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have scattered you, and I will bring you home after your long exile, declares the Lord.

(*ready to add in voices by Choir Members)

Our Gospel Lesson comes from the Matthew in the 18th Chapter.

GLORY TO YOU, O LORD!

  • 2) "If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

PRAISE TO YOU, OH CHRIST

(*ready to add in voices by Children & Parents)

D) MESSAGE for the YOUNG at HEART, led by Yarlette Bryant, Sydney Brown and the gifted Goffney Girls

There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house, no mirrors in my Nana’s house. There were no mirrors in my Nana’s house, no mirrors in my Nana’s house. And the beauty that I saw in everything was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun).

  1. I never knew that my skin was too black; I never knew that my nose was too flat; I never knew that my clothes didn’t fit; I never knew there were things that I’d missed, cause the beauty in everything was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun) …was in her eyes.

  2. I was intrigued by the cracks in the walls; I tasted, with joy, the dust that would fall; The noise in the hallway was music to me; The trash and the rubbish just cushioned my feet; And the beauty in everything, was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun) …was in her eyes.

  3. The world outside was a magical place; I only knew love; I never knew hate; and the beauty in everything; was in her eyes (like the rising of the sun) … was in her eyes.

E) LITURGY & PRAYER led by #3 & #4
  • 3) The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

AND ALSO WITH YOU

  • 4) We gather together and share a CREED to remember that in God, we have a Companion who will never fail us and will be with us always. It is a CREED that reminds us that death is never the final answer, and the hope springs eternal for those who follow the God of Resurrection and Life.

I BELIEVE IN GOD,

the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST,

God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • 3) We take this moment to confess our sins: Do you confess that you are captive to sin and cannot free yourself from this trap of sin and death, at least not in this life? Do you confess that you have sinned against God in anger, rebellion, frustration, doubt and fear.

WE DO.

  • 4) Do you confess that, because your neighbor fails to love in the way that God commands, that you also have not loved your neighbor as yourself? Do you confess that you struggle to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength?

WE DO.

  • 3) Do you ask, with the help of Jesus Christ, Forgive us, Lord, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

WE DO. AMEN.

  • 4) Brothers and sisters hear this grace: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you and for His sake, God forgives you all of your sins. As a called disciple of Christ I declare the entire forgiveness of all of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

AMEN.

F) SECOND LESSON: Ephesians 4:1-6, read by #5 & #6
  • 5) As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.  There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

  • 6) So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

5) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

6) From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks Be to God!!

G) SECOND SONG: Lead Me, Guide Me, written by Doris Akers, led by Pastor Todd

Please MUTE and SING along (lyrics in Video)

  • (CHORUS) Lead me, guide me along the way, For Iif you lead me, I cannot stry, Lord, let me walk, each day with thee, Lead me, Oh Lord, Lead me.

  1. I am Weak and I need Thy strength and power, To guide me over my darkest hour, Lord, just open my eyes that I may see, Lead me, Oh Lord, Lead me. (CHORUS)

  2. I am Weak if you take your hand from me, I am Blind, Lord, without Thy light to see, Lord, just always let me Thy servant be, Lead me, Oh Lord, Lead Me (CHORUS)

Please MUTE and SING along

H) SERMON: They'll Know We Are Christians BY Our LOVE

It is possible to FLUNK 2020, to barely pass Companionship, and to still ACE COVID.

Because God is Good All the Time.

  • And I learned that in my Grandma’s house. Even though she died almost 20 years ago.

If we speak only for ourselves, we are weak and we need help, whether we are able to see it or not.

  • And I learned that in my Grandma’s house.

If we think only about our own welfare and what we want and what is best for ourselves, then we are blind whether we are able to see it or not.

  • And I learned that because there was only one mirror in my Grandma’s house.

Speaking power to power is all about finding unity. Which is tuning in to what is best for the many, not what is best for just the one. Or a tiny few. Speaking power to power is all about listening to what is good for others, and giving voice to those who have no voice.

  • Grandma was one of the fiercest and most conservative Republicans I have ever met. But nobody seemed to embody the loving my neighbor the way Jesus taught better than my Grandma. Because her faith in God always, always, always trumped her politics. Yes, pun intended.

Speaking power to power is all about tuning into God’s plans. Especially when our own plans have been tossed into the scrap heap and we need to start over.

It is possible to FLUNK 2020, to barely pass Companionship, and to still ACE COVID.

Because God is Good All the Time.

GREAT THANKSGIVING & Preface by #7

Please UNMute & RESPOND

The Lord be with you,

AND ALSO WITH YOU

Lift up your hearts

WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD!

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.

IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE.

It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, Holy Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so with the Church on Earth and all the hosts of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, or You Are Holy, led by Pastor Todd

Please MUTE & SING:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, in the highest.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION & Lord's Prayer, led by #7

The Words of Institution are recorded for us in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well as by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:

  • “Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night in which He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: ‘Take and eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.’

  • “In the same way also He took the cup after supper, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying: ‘Drink of it all of you; this cup is the New Covenant in My blood, which is shed for you and for all people, for the remission of sins. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'”

When the disciples didn't know how to PRAY in the face of the challenges ahead of them, they asked Jesus for help. He said, "Pray this way!" Will you share with me the Lord's Prayer?

Please UNMute & RESPOND

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

  • Let us pray. Life-giving God, in the mystery of Christ’s resurrection you send light to conquer darkness, water to give new life, and the bread of life to nourish your people.
